Description

To provide comprehensive veterinary care to animals in the City of Memphis Animal Shelter, ensuring their health and well-being, while supporting shelter operations, staff training, and community outreach.

Requirements

Animal Health Management
- Perform routine health assessments, vaccinations, and treatments for shelter animals.
- Oversee and implement protocols for disease prevention and control, including vaccination schedules and quarantine procedures.
- Conduct spay/neuter surgeries and other surgical procedures as necessary.
Shelter Operations Support
- Collaborate with shelter staff to manage the intake of animals, ensuring proper health evaluations and documentation.
- Assist in the development and implementation of shelter policies regarding animal care and welfare.
- Provide guidance on shelter design and animal housing to improve animal welfare and operational efficiency.
Staff Training and Development
- Train shelter staff and volunteers in basic veterinary care, animal handling, and emergency response procedures.
- Develop educational materials and workshops for staff to enhance their knowledge of shelter medicine practices.
Community Engagement
- Work with local community organizations to promote responsible pet ownership and animal welfare initiatives.
- Participate in community outreach programs, including vaccination clinics, spay clinics and adoption events.
Record Keeping and Reporting

• Maintain accurate medical records for all shelter animals, ensuring compliance with local and state regulations.
• Prepare reports on shelter animal health statistics and trends for management review.
• Maintain DEA license and records
• Ensure compliance with premise permit

Qualifications
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited institution.
- Licensure to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Tennessee.
