Description
Cat Care of Fayette is a privately owned, feline-exclusive practice that also cares for exotic small mammals.
Our externship is hands-on. You’ll work alongside the owner, a veterinarian who started here as a technician and took over the practice within a few years of graduating, and a small team that genuinely enjoys teaching.
What you’ll experience
- Appointments: take histories, perform physical exams and present your findings and plans for wellness, sick and urgent care cases
- Case workups: build differential lists, choose diagnostics and interpret results
- SOAP writing practice for medical appointments, surgery, and necropsy reports
- Surgery and anesthesia: scrub in on soft-tissue procedures, with hands-on participation as your skills and school guidelines allow. You’ll also help manage anesthesia and do dental cleanings and dental radiographs.
- Feline-specific medicine: Learn low-stress handling, chronic disease management (kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, diabetes) and feline-friendly practice standards
- Exotics exposure: small mammal exams, husbandry counseling and common medical cases
- Advanced services: see endoscopy and other specialized procedures as cases allow
- The business side: an inside look at how an independent practice runs, from client communication to growth, staffing and opening a new facility. Perfect for those interested in business management or ownership
