About us
The St. Croix Animal Welfare Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal welfare organization, that has been serving the island community of St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands since the 1970's. Since 2016 we have been offering a low-cost high-volume community clinic, as well as providing veterinary care for our shelter's pets.
Our mission is to provide and promote the humane treatment of animals through humane education, animal protection and community service.
Duties:
- Examine animals and diagnose their health problems
- Perform surgeries, such as spaying and neutering, and dental procedures
- Treat and dress wounds
- Prescribe medication and administer vaccinations
- Advise pet owners on nutrition, preventive healthcare, and general care
- Conduct laboratory tests, such as blood work and urinalysis
- Collaborate with veterinary technicians and other staff members to provide comprehensive care for animals
- Maintain accurate medical records for all patients

Requirements
Skills:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited veterinary school
- State veterinary license and DEA license in good standing
- Strong knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, and diseases
- Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication skills to educate pet owners and collaborate with staff members
- Compassion and empathy towards animals and their owners
- Ability to handle stressful situations with calmness and professionalism
We are seeking a skilled Veterinarian to join our team that is responsible for providing high-quality medical care to a variety of animals. Your role will involve diagnosing illnesses, performing surgeries including high volume spay/neuter, prescribing medication, and advising pet owners on preventive care. If you are passionate about animal welfare and have strong clinical skills, we would love to hear from you. Orthopaedic surgery expertise a plus.
